i have this splinter on my hand and as much as i want to get it out with my knife, i dont want to.  it reminds me of a wonderful day i had with someone i was very close to.  on this day, we walked to the boardwalk and laid down on the boardwalk in the middle of pedestrian traffic just to look up in terror at the birds, planes, clouds and helicopters in the sky.  it was then when she asked me “what kind of bird would you be? and eagle or owl?” i responded with “an owl because they are up and night and are associated with wisdom and i would rather have brains than brawn.”  looking at this splinter reminds me of that day and how much fun i had with this individual.  its imprinted in my skin as a reminder that i mattered to this person more than any other on the planet on that day.  why would i remove this relic of such a special day out of my hand? i hope to keep it here as long as i can so this person can see how much they mean to me and how much this particular day mattered to me.  i hope it mattered as much to this person.
